Happier Day!!!!!!!!

Today was much happier, and I felt better about the class. I have only one classmate, sheer luxury. On Monday, however, we get two more students to join us. It will be good to share John, the cop, with others to whom he can give some of his generous advice, much of which I have grown a bit weary of... But, then again, if I have to struggle to keep up with the newbies, I'll probably start hyperventilating again. Ah, what the hell, "Rome wasn't built in a day," right!

Tomorrow I made reservations to take a bus to Tequila. Apparently some other students are going on the same bus; perhaps I'll meet a few. But, since they all look like they're not old enough to drink, I doubt that I'll find a soul-mate as I often have on other trips. Hey, I'm not putting down any young folks; it's just a reality.

Another surprise for me is that I haven't been truly aware of how social I am, and I think my choatic household is just fine after spending a week in a home with very retiring people. I am also pleasantly surprised at how much I miss my family, friends, and community. This is something new since in the past, I usually only concentrated on my new experiences.

My Mexican family consists of a very nice retired couple with several children who return on Sundays with their childen, so that should be fun. The huge plus is that Lydia is a marvelous cook. No animals, very little tv, no music (!!) and no noise.

This afternoon I plan to stroll around the central city a bit to add to my impressions of the people and culture. I'm keeping a journal, and perhaps I'll write and try to sell an article or two on studying a language in a foreign country. The buses are all over the place but trying to find routes or schedules is impossible. All that you've heard about drivers is understated. They all think that they are kamikaze pilots. Pedestrian rights are non-existent, and I flee for my life when I cross an intersection, large or small.

More later because I plan to learn enough to write at least one entry in Spanish. I promised Eric!

Don't Worry, Be happy!

Hey Ms. Mura, it's me Jack. Don't worry, you will meet some friends soon. I completely understand the difficulty with language barriers, don't worry, you will catch on so quickly. I can't wait to hear from you. By the way, I was accepted at St. Olaf two days ago. Well, I'll talk to you later.

ps. Have fun!
