We spent a lot of the time in the library watching the same horrible thing 
again and again.  My students were speechless for the most part.  Then, 
later in the day, we just talked about what was going on.  Everyone was just 
trying to make sense of things.  My students have been wonderful 
--supporting and comforting each other and trying to analyze the situation 
as well as they can.  Some of them said things like "what started this?" and 
then "a military strike would just be doing the same thing to them --we've 
got to rise above it and punish those who are guilty," and then "we must be 
careful because we know how things can escalate."  I was very proud of them. 
  They seemed to be handling things a lot better than some of the adults.  A 
few of them even tried to comfort me --"Are you okay?  You seem sad."  I 
hope their empathy will continue to endure.
