I got the same memo about not turning on the TV (which is probably better
for my Freshmen, anyway). So, instead of finding prepositions and in and
talking about "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud," we did the same for "Dulce
Et Decorum Est" and "Doomed Youth" (Wilfred Owen). Today I think we'll
do a close reading of Teasdale's "There Will Come Soft Rains."

I think that it's important to cater to the needs/fears of our students,
but it's also important not to become paralyzed (isn't what the terrorists
want us to do is become paralyzed with fear?). Use these next few days as
a chance to use words to express feelings.

I'm personally exausted. I know that Madison, Mississippi is a good
distance from NY, but it's 10 miles from Pearl, where this school shooting
trend all started. The memories of that hell still give me heartburn.

Like someone else said, today is a good day to approach your students both
as a teacher and as a human being.

Pax,
Jamie
