I would like to respond, but I'm in an area that's affected by the tragedies
of yesterday (in Pittsburgh, we had one of the highjacked planes fly overhead,
and we thought that maybe it was headed toward us, but now we realize it was
not, and it crashed in a small town about 90 miles away, but that isn't
exactly a comfort now either). But broadly speaking, everyone in the country
is affected by what occurred yesterday. And I had to go back to class today
and deal with "what to do now" and decided to ask the students what they
needed. They decided to speak about what was in their minds and hearts and
not what was on the syllabus. I'm finding it hard to come up with "what we do
on this list" but I guess it's also stuff like this--we discuss classroom
issues, we ask for advice regarding professional responsibilities, and we seek
to find a community of critical thinkers who'll be there to offer
encouragement, support, and etc. as we go through our programs. If anyone
else would like to discuss how they deal/dealt with the issues of the day in
their classrooms, we could do that and I'd welcome a discussion on those
lines. How do we go back to whatever we would call normal?
