[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] A ceremony at one of our schools
To the list, There have been many many times over the past 11 years when I have been proud of being a part of our public school system in Menlo Park but today was probably the best... I just got off the phone with a parent from our 3rd-5th grade school who had come from a ceremony this morning at the school. All the children were outside for the raising of the flag and they sang "God Bless America" which is probably not an unusual occurrence today; however, what was different was that the principal had invited the police and firemen from our community to share in the ceremony so that the students could say thank you to all of them for what they do everyday. The parent I talked to could barely speak but she said that one of the fireman, with tears in his eyes, told her that he knew that lots of schools had done something to commemorate the day but it was the first to which they had been invited. In all of the pain and anger, I somehow feel better..... Karen
