I had my students write letters to the editor and their congressman today.  
My last period said they were a little tired of hearing about it and not
being about to do anything, and they welcomed the opportunity to learn how
they take part in the way our government works:  through their
representatives.  Is there anything else that I can have my students do in
class?  I want to empower them in a situation where they feel helpless.
